† How were you introduced to the art of “cute cooking”?
I have a soft spot for cute stuff. I have been greatly inspired by the many talented and creative food bloggers out there.
1. Piggy Snowskin Mooncake
† What inspired your cute creation?
It was my first attempt at making snowskin mooncakes. Since I do not have any mooncake molds, I used a piggy cookie cutter instead.
† How did you make it?
You can read about how I went about making these at my blog here.
† Any other comments or tips?
This snowskin mooncake can be made with other cute cookie cutters…such as Winnie the Pooh and Cinnamonroll.
2. Horlicks Doggie Cookies

I first saw these doggie cookies posted by other food bloggers, I couldn’t wait to try making them with my kids.

Besides Horlicks, I have also tried using Milo. You can also shape them into piggies or mouse, see here.

† How were you introduced to the art of “cute cooking”?
I’ve been interested in “cute cooking” my whole life, but actually making bento boxes is something I wanted to do for a long time and hadn’t until I had a son to appreciate it with me. I love Japanese animation, film and culture, so I share the kid-friendly stuff that I also enjoy with my kid.
† What inspired your cute creation?
He LOVES Anpanman (the Japanese anime character), so I decided to use that for the base of the bento you chose. I love that the cartoon is also about food themed characters!
† How did you make it?
As vegans, we don’t incorporate any food that is derived from animals, so the ingredients are all plant based. Anpanman’s face is a flat pita which was toasted w/earth balance butter, Roasted red pepper hummus cheeks; Red pepper nose. Seaweed eyes and mouth and also used to seperate from the hummus dip & sweet peppers. The lower tier of the bento is my “Rainbow Pastato Salad” which is made with vinegar, veganaise, fresh green, red, yellow and/or orange peppers, basil, parsley, salt, boiled potatoes and pasta noodles (corkscrew, ditalini and/or elbow style). The bento is also completely organic.
† Any other comments or tips?
My tip would be to keep it simple and work up to getting fancier with it! I started out trying to do something really fancy and complicated and it got kind of outta hand.. I think the longer I do it, the better I will get at making the fancy stuff! Practice makes perfect! Don’t forget to have fun!!

† How were you introduced to the art of “cute cooking”?
My younger sister is a big fan of “kawaii” stuff so I think I originally bought these for her (and wound up eating them myself after taking pictures).
† Where did you find this cute creation?
I got them at a Japanese tea salon in Paris called Minamoto Kitchoan. They specialize in “wagashi” and I think they only sell these during the “Moon Festival”.
† What is it made of? How does it taste?
Azuki bean paste, wheat flour, yuzu… It tasted ok but to be honest, it was kind of disappointing compared to all the other pastries they sell at that place!
† Any other comments or tips?
Thank you for your interest!

CUTE PIGGY BENTOS, TEDDY BEAR BREADS. KID’S SCHOOL LUNCHES.

† How were you introduced to the art of “cute cooking”?
I googled to look for ideas for my kid’s lunch box who started going to pre school last September. Then I found out about the bento thing and I got addicted since then. Didn’t know before that food can look so cute!! Now I get to use the artistic side in me and do something more creative than changing diapers an running around after the kids all day without feeling guilty because it’s for them!!
In general I’m inspired by all the awesome bento makers on flickr which i’ve learned from them a lot! I also watch a lot of cute toddler/baby tv shows and I read a lot of toddler/baby story books to my kids, that inspire me too!

† What inspired your cute creation? How did you make the bread bears?
I was trying to make and edible version of a wrist rest that I’ve seen on flickr which looked like a bear made of bread! It doesn’t look the same but I was happy with the results!
Use any bread recipe you like, stuff the dough with some turkey and cheese or anything you like and shape it like a ball and put it in a small cupcakes cup. Make two small balls for the ears and try to stick them by pressing with your fingers and try to tuck them under the head of the bear and bake it. Finally use straws and cookie cutter to cut a slice cheese for the face and and olives for the mouth and eyes. Put the cheese and olives on the face when its hot right after you take it out of the oven.
† What inspired your cute creation? How did you make the piggy bento?
I just think that pigs are so cute and I love making piggy bentos! I’ve made before pancakes pigs, onigiri pigs and pig sandwiches.
The pig is easy to make the only problem is that they don’t always turn out well. Using any pizza dough recipe make a ball using your hands you can stuff it with cheese or anything you like. Cut a thin slice of hot dog for the nose make 2 holes using a straw, try to stick the nose to the dough. For ears cut a slice of hot dog then cut the slice into two halfs try to tick it as ears using water. For the eyes I used black olives using a straw to cut them. When you finish brush the dough with egg yolk and bake them! The tricky part is that most of the time the ears and nose don’t stay in place, they fall off. You need to open the oven and press them in. Or maybe if you stick them really nice that won’t happen. Next time I make these I will try to use a raw spaghetti as a pin to stick the ears and nose!
